Answering the Call for Help

Following Hurricane Debby, Hamilton County Animal Control responded to a call for assistance. Upon arrival, they found 20 dogs needing immediate help. Their elderly owner had fallen gravely ill and needed to be taken to a medical center for treatment leaving the dogs with no one to care for them.

The dogs, who all require medical care, needed to be removed from the property as soon as possible. Hamilton County Animal Control in conjunction with Florida State Animal Response Coalition (FLSARC) and the Florida Association of Animal Welfare Organizations (FAAWO) reached out to Cat Depot for assistance.

Odd pairing, right? Well, after exploring many options for placement, Steve, FLSARC Manager, remembered that Cat Depot had a purr-fect location to temporarily house the dogs while they underwent their initial medical exams and behavioral assessments. And with that, Cat Depot has now officially “gone to the dogs!”

We are so excited to share this journey with you as they embark on their new lives!

UPDATE – Tuesday, September 3 2024: As of Friday, August 30th all 18 dogs rescued from Hamilton County have made their way to our shelter partners throughout the State and will be available for adoption shortly. Thank you to Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue, Humane Society of Sarasota County, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, SPCA Florida, Pet Alliance, H.A.L.O. (Helping Animals Live and Overcome), and the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County for helping the dogs on the next step of their journeys to forever homes!
