General Volunteer Orientations

Volunteer Orientations at Cat Depot are the first step in joining our dedicated team of animal advocates. These sessions provide an overview of Cat Depot’s mission, policies, and daily operations, while introducing the many ways volunteers help care for our cats and support our programs.

During orientation, attendees will learn about volunteer roles, expectations, safety guidelines, and next steps for training. Orientations are designed to ensure that every volunteer feels informed, prepared, and confident before getting started.

If you are passionate about helping cats and making a difference in your community, we invite you to sign up for an upcoming Volunteer Orientation and begin your journey with Cat Depot.

Orientations are held on the First Saturday of each month, major holidays excepted, from 10:30AM to 12:00PM.

Reading to Rescues at Cat Depot

Cat Depot’s Reading to Rescues program invites children to practice their reading skills while spending quiet, comforting time with our shelter cats. This gentle, low-pressure experience helps kids build confidence and fluency, and it provides enrichment and socialization for our feline residents.

Each Sunday morning, children can sign up for a 30-minute reading session with a cat in one of our cozy cat rooms. Young readers choose their own books and read aloud at their own pace while a calm, curious cat listens nearby.

Program Details

  • When: Sundays at 10:30 am, 11:00 am, or 11:30 am

  • Session Length: 30 minutes

  • Cost: $5 per child

  • Who: Children who enjoy reading and love cats (a parent or guardian must remain on site).

Space is limited for each time slot, so advance registration is encouraged. Reading to Rescues is a fun and meaningful way for kids to grow as readers while making a positive difference for homeless cats.
