Adoption Fees for Adult Cats and Kittens were reduced to $50 during the BISSELL PET Foundation's Empty the Shelters Adoption Event
Cat Depot is deeply grateful to our compassionate, pet-loving community for showing up in force during BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters adoption event, held October 10–15. During the event, 55 wonderful cats and kittens were available for adoption—and thanks to your support, more than half are now settling into loving forever homes!
These successful adoptions made room on our adoption floor, allowing Cat Depot to rescue cats and kittens still waiting for their chance. Every summer and late fall, shelters like ours are inundated with urgent pleas to save young kittens and their mothers, stretching our already overburdened resources. With this newfound space, we’ve already taken in several litters of vulnerable kittens in need.
“Because of the success of the adoption event, we were able to take in a litter of two-week-old kittens who would not have survived without our immediate assistance,” said Diana de Veer, Senior Director of Operations at Cat Depot. “This is the power of a community coming together to save animals. One act of opening your home to a cat in need saves another life.”
Among the many heartwarming adoptions were several staff and volunteer favorites—including Mocha, a sweet and gentle boy rescued earlier this summer from heartbreaking conditions. Mocha was one of more than 200 cats crammed into a single home, surviving by hiding in walls and competing for food. Despite the trauma he endured, Mocha’s kind spirit touched everyone he met.
“Mocha holds a special place in my heart,” said Michelle Tolson, Cat Care Manager at Cat Depot. “He was our resident patriarch, looking after younger cats and helping them build confidence. He truly deserved a home of his own, and we are so grateful to Cathy Bissell and the BISSELL Pet Foundation for creating the event that made that happen.”
Since its inception in 2016, Empty the Shelters has helped more than 360,000 pets find loving homes and is now the largest funded adoption event in the country. The program partners with more than 815 animal welfare organizations across 49 states and Canada.
