Giving Challenge 2026 – Matilda Deserves A Second Chance

Proof That Rescue Isn’t Always Pretty, But It’s Always Worth It

Matilda’s story is one of second chances.

She was found abandoned in a sealed box, frantically clawing to escape. Around her neck, a deep scar remains—a permanent reminder of the life she survived.

At Cat Depot, Matilda has found comfort and safety. Now she can rest and heal – for as long as she needs.

Matilda's Story

When Matilda arrived at Cat Depot, she wasn’t carried in by loving hands.
She was left behind in a cardboard box — taped shut — and surrendered under duress.
Her story began in fear and uncertainty… but it doesn’t end there.

Matilda is a gentle soul who has already weathered more than most cats should. She appears to have hearing impairment, was treated for a painful ear infection, and has been diagnosed with Stage 2 renal disease. But despite it all, she remains sweet, vocal, and full of love for anyone willing to give her a chance.

This is what rescue truly looks like.
It’s not always pretty.
Sometimes it’s gut‑wrenching.
But it also creates miracles — like Matilda.

Today, Matilda is safe. She’s healing. And for the first time in a long time… she has hope.
