Cat Depot Receives Florida Animal Friend Grant

$15,000 Grant will Provide 300 FREE TNVR Services

Cat Depot is grateful to receive a $15,000 grant from Florida Animal Friend that we will put to use providing much-need TNVR services for community cats from Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties.

This funding will enable Cat Depot to perform an additional 300 spay and neuter surgeries for community cats, preventing the birth of thousands of kittens and improving the lives of cats and caregivers in our community.

About Florida Animal Friend

Florida Animal Friend License Plate

Florida Animal Friend is the organization that offers the popular specialty “Spay & Neuter” license plate available for vehicles in Florida.

When you purchase a Florida Animal Friend license plate, you’re not just purchasing a cute plate. You are helping organizations like Cat Depot get much needed grant support. All sales from the Florida Animal Friend license plate support organizations across Florida that offer low or no-cost spay and neuter services.

Since 2005, Florida Animal Friend has awarded over $8.8 million in grants, helping reduce pet overpopulation and supporting the mission to save “the lives of countless unwanted cats and dogs.”

Get a Plate. Fix a Pet.

By purchasing the Florida Animal Friend license plate, you are directly supporting the delivery of lifesaving spay and neuter services across Florida. For every plate purchased or renewed, $25 helps fund annual grants — just like the one awarded to Cat Depot.

“At Cat Depot, we believe TNVR is not just a program, it’s a long-term, compassionate solution to feline overpopulation, ” said Diana de Veer, Senior Director of Operations, at Cat Depot. “This funding allows us to target areas in greatest need and reduce the number of cats struggling to survive on the streets. Together, we’re creating safer communities for cats and people.”

What’s a Community Cat

Community cats are unowned, free-roaming felines that often live in outdoor colonies. The most humane and effective way to manage these populations is through Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR).

This approach—practiced and supported by Cat Depot—ensures cats live healthier lives while preventing the birth of countless litters.

Why TNVR Works

By returning sterilized, vaccinated cats to their colonies, TNVR:

  • Prevents overpopulation by stopping the breeding cycle
  • Reduces nuisance behaviors like yowling, spraying, and fighting
  • Lowers shelter intake, keeping more space available for adoptable cats and kittens
