Sweet Teddy was found, terribly injured, lost as a stray. A Good Samaritan rescued him and luckily he arrived at Cat Depot for the critical care he needed. But without a microchip, Teddy’s chances of being reunited with his family are slim.
Cat Depot is celebrating National Microchipping Month this June by offering $10 microchips for cats at our Cat Care Clinic all month long.
Did You Know?
- 1 in 3 pets will go missing during their lifetime.
- Most lost cats are believed to stay within a five-hour radius of their home.
- Unchipped cats entering shelters have less than a 2% chance of being reunited with their owners.
- According to the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association (JAVMA), microchipped cats are 20 times more likely to be reunited with their families, with a return-to-owner rate of more than 38%.
- Collars and tags can snag, break, or fall off. A microchip—about the size of a grain of rice—is safely placed between the shoulder blades and cannot be lost.
- Indoor cats need microchips too. Many lost cats are indoor-only pets that accidentally slip outside through an open door, damaged screen, or window.
- Give your cat the best chance of finding their way home. Schedule your $10 microchip appointment today.
Why Microchipping Matters
June is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of permanently identifying pets to help reunite lost animals with their families. It’s also a reminder to vaccinate pets, microchip them, and keep contact information up to date.
Microchipping is the single most effective way to ensure a lost cat finds its way home. While collars and ID tags are helpful, they can break, fall off, or be removed—leaving a cat with no identification at all.
A microchip provides permanent, reliable identification that stays safely beneath the skin for a cat’s entire lifetime.
